New Cortana ads by Microsoft focus on Valentine’s Day

With Valentine’s Day almost upon us, Microsoft decided to release a couple of new promotional videos for Cortana, its very own virtual personal assistant. As you’d expect given the Valentine’s Day theme, the ads are all about love. The Lumia 635 smartphone is featured in them too, though oddly with a Microsoft logo replacing Nokia’s.
In the first video, one man is happy that despite having broken up with his girlfriend around Valentine’s, which isn’t fun, he’s quickly managed to find someone new. Not only that, but he’s apparently blown away by how well she knows him.
So that’s one lucky guy, right? Well, it turns out he’s not alone. The other video is about a woman telling her parents that she finally met someone who brings out the best in her.
Around this time of the year every company seems to think it’s obliged to release some kind of promotional material with a Valentine’s Day focus. And while Microsoft hasn’t bucked the trend, it managed to bring some neat humor along for its ride.

BlackBerry Passport gets a price cut for Valentine’s Day

BlackBerry gave its flagship smartphone a price cut for Valentine’s Day. The squarish BlackBerry Passport is available with $100 off in the United States and $125 off in Canada.

The discount is available directly in the Canadian manufacturer’s official online store. It will run through Monday, February 16. All three colors of the handset are available - black, white, and red.
BlackBerry’s promo pricing means that you can pick up a Passport for as low as $499 in the United States (in black or white). The more eye-catching red color goes for $599.

Amazon offers discounts for Kindle tablets and e-readers as a Valentine’s Day deal

Amazon, being the symbol of consumerism that it is, has some strange ideas of what constitutes an appropriate – never mind good – gift for Valentine’s Day. Honey, I got you some Kindle tablets and e-readers, they were on sale!

Jokes aside, the Kindle Fire HDX 8.9 (64GB, Wi-Fi) has been slashed from its normal price of $480 to just $300. That’s not a bad deal for an 8.9″ 2,560 x 1,600px display, Snapdragon 805 and a free Amazon Prime subscription.
If this one is too capable, then the older Kindle Fire HDX (7″, 16GB, Wi-Fi) and Fire HD 7 (8GB, Wi-Fi) are $40 and $25 off respectively. Then there are the entry-level Kindle Fire HD6 and HD6 Kids edition get minor price cuts too, $15 down.
The e-ink Kindles get $20 cut from their regular prices, which puts the base model at $60 and the Paperwhite model at $100. You can also get $20 off the 3G-enabled Kindle Paperwhite (now $170), but keep in mind you have to give $10 back if you don’t want “Special offers,” which is Amazon talk for ads on the lockscreen.
Keep in mind that those are limited-time offers.

Vertu Clous De Paris is a pricy Velentine's Day gift

Around Valentine's Day we usually see a number of pink phones launching, but Vertu is too classy for that. Instead the Clous De Paris is made of Grade-5 titanium engraved with a guilloche pattern and upholstered with alligator skin crafted by French and Italian tanneries.

The phone is based on the Vertu Signature Touch and features Bang & Olufsen tuned audio, ringtones by the London Symphony Orchestra, a 13MP Hasselblad camera and 24-hour concierge services.
The more technical specs include a 4.7" 1080p display protected by sapphire glass, a Snapdragon 801 chipset, 64GB of built-in storage, stereo speakers, 2,275mAh battery with Qi wireless charging and LTE connectivity.
The Vertu Clous De Paris is priced at £11,800, with a safe shipping guaranteed and duty taxes already paid. It's available in Vertu boutiques and online.

Microsoft giving away a free Lumia 435 for every Lumia 535 buyer in Italy this Valentine’s Day

Slowly, but surely, we’re starting to hear more and more about this year’s Valentine’s Day offers and deals. The latest such promotion to get unearthed comes from Italy, where Microsoft is preparing a pretty sweet deal.
If you buy a Lumia 535 from February 4 to February 15, you’ll get a free Lumia 435. This is however limited to Italy, so if you’re not there, you can’t take advantage of the offer.
You don’t even have to buy the Lumia 535 from a specific store. Any purchase counts, whether made online or offline, even if you get the device from an Italian carrier. After you’ve bought the Lumia 535, you simply go to the special website Microsoft has set up for this promo, enter your details so your purchase can be identified, and that’s it. You then patiently wait and Microsoft will start shipping the free Lumia 435 units on February 23. You will have to register on the website between February 4 and February 22.
A “buy one, get one free” offer always sounds neat, and this one might help Microsoft move some product over in Italy. Neither the Lumia 535 nor the Lumia 435 are high-end devices, but getting two smartphones for the price of one is still pretty good.
