Xiaomi may be teasing a sports camera for March 2

Xiaomi is teasing a new device for March 2, the teasers themselves are based around a matchbox, suggesting a tiny device. But what is it? The current most popular guess is a sports camera.
The company already has a smartband, so a sports camera isn’t out of the realm of possibilities.
The teasers feature a slice of ocean, luggage with a diving mask, a sky slope and a cat. Other than the cat, this pretty much describes a water and weather resistant camera to capture your escapades.
The rumors of a Xiaomi sports camera aren’t new, last year the company reportedly collaborated with a Shanghai-based company to create a GoPro-like device that will cost CNY 999 ($160/€140). Back then the rumored features were a 138° wide-angle lens, 4K video at 30fps and 1080p at 120fps, plus a microSD card slot.
Xiaomi’s event is scheduled for March 2 when we will presumably see the Xiaomi camera unveiled.

Samsung slips to number five in Chinese smartphone market

Samsung, which was dethroned in China by local upstart Xiaomi last year, has slipped to the fifth position in the country's smartphone market now, according to a latest report from the market research firm IDC.
As per the report, in Q4, 2014, the South Korean company captured just 7.9% of the market, a whopping 50% decline compared to the year ago quarter.
On the other hand, with an year-on-year growth of 150%, Xiaomi occupied the first place, capturing 13.7% of the market. Next came in Apple, with 12.3% market share, followed by Huawei and Lenovo, with 11% and 9.5% market share, respectively.
Overall, a total of 107.5 million smartphones were shipped in the country in Q4 last year, representing a 2% quarter-on-quarter growth.

MIUI 6.3.5 is now seeding to Xiaomi Redmi Note 4G

The latest MIUI 6.3.5 arrived on Xiaomi Redmi Note 4G. The update is now seeding to users of the budget-friendly device in India and Taiwan.
Unfortunately, the 577MB-large update is not based on Android 5.0 Lollipop. Users will still have to make to with Android 4.4.4 KitKat for the time being.
MIUI 6.3.5 brings a number of tweaks to the Xiaomi Redmi Note 4G. They include resolved issue with camera lag and music playback, and improved overall performance of the handset.

MIUI 6 update coming to the Xiaomi Redmi 1S

The latest version of Xiaomi's MIUI 6 is to become available for the Redmi 1S later this week. MIUI 6 was announced back in August last year, but the budget-friendly smartphone has so far been left out in the cold.
Admittedly, it will be a beta version of the ROM at this point, released to the public to iron out unforeseen imperfections. The official version should follow in the coming weeks though. The company has also promised that the update will be rolled out to its entire smartphone lineup at a later stage.
MIUI OS is Xiaomi's iOS-inspired thoroughly-customized Android overlay. It abandons Android's two-level interface and ditches the app drawer in favor of a number of homescreens for all your apps. A flat, polished look with consistent app icons is also typical of the MIUI.

Xiaomi to open online store for the US, but won't sell phones

At its mysterious event in San Francisco today, Xiaomi has announced that it plans to open its own online store in the US in a few months.
However, the caveat of the century follows. See, Xiaomi will not be selling smartphones or tablets through that storefront. So the most craved items it makes will still be off limits to US-based customers, at least in an official manner.

Instead, Xiaomi will offer its increasing range of accessories, such as headphones (pictured above),fitness bandspower banks, and more. The US isn't the only 'western' market targeted by the company - it will bring is online store to other countries too.
One of the reasons why phones and tablets won't be made available for US customers is that apparently Xiaomi finds that localization of its MIUI ROM (which is reportedly being used on 100 million devices already) is very difficult.
There are also (unnamed) issues with hardware certification, software testing, infrastructure, as well as other logistical challenges, all of which conspire to keep Mi handsets and tablets out of the hands of American consumers, for now at least. And it doesn't help that it's a market in which people are used to buying their mobile devices from carriers, and not directly from the manufacturer's online store.
Xiaomi hopes that if it launches simpler products first, they'll help build brand awareness before it makes any bigger steps in the US. However, as of now a phone launch is not on the roadmap at all

Redmi Note 4G now available in India without registration

Xiaomi's Redmi Note 4G, which was launched in India back in December last year, is now available for purchase on e-commerce website Flipkart without any registration.

Although the Chinese smartphone manufacturer has said that it is now making enough units of the device, and can sell it without any flash sale, it's highly likely that the move was made because the phablet's demand in the market has gone down, given the fact that it did not sell out during its last flash sale that took place on February 10.
The news comes just a couple of days after the Mi 4 sold out in just 15 seconds during its first flash sale in the country. The 64GB variant of the device will go on sale on February 24.

Redmi 2 with 2GB RAM, 16GB storage to go on sale this month

A couple of weeks after its existence was revealed, it is being reported that the Xiaomi Redmi 2 with double the RAM and storage will go on sale during the Chinese company's Spring Festival, which is set to take place between February 13 and February 25.
It is being speculated that the device will be called the Enhanced Edition, and will be priced at CNY799 (about $128).
Aside from RAM and internal storage, the new model will retain all the other specifications of the original version, which is powered by Snapdragon 410 chipset with Quad-core 1.2 GHz Cortex-A53 CPU and Adreno 306 GPU. The device sports a 4.7-inch screen with a resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels, 8MP main camera, and 2MP front camera. The Redmi 2 also packs in a 2,200mAh battery, and runs Android 4.4.4 with MIUI 6 on top.

64GB version of Xiaomi Mi 4 flash sale in India starting on 24 th FEB

After quite a few delays, the Xiaomi Mi 4 is due to finally be up for grabs in India starting tomorrow, through a series of flash sales. This is the company's normal way of doing business, so nothing out of the ordinary here.
But tomorrow you'll only be able to pick up the 16GB white version of the smartphone. If you like the Mi 4 but were hoping for some more built-in space, then you'll have to wait until February 24.

The Chinese company has officially announced that it will start selling the 64GB Mi 4 in India on that day. The 64GB variant will cost INR 23,999 (same as the date), which at the current exchange rates means around $386 or €341.
The 16GB model is going to be offered for INR 19,999, which is about $322 or €284. This is so far only going to be made available in white. It's still unclear whether the higher-storage variation will be in the same situation.

Xiaomi schedules event for February 12 in San Francisco

Xiaomi may be the world's third-biggest smartphone maker, but most of its products never leave China. The company is reportedly looking to open up shop in India, but now the company is taking a trip to the US.

There, in San Francisco specifically, the company will hold an event on February 12. It's not clear what the topic will be though – opening a store, recruiting employees or just visiting? The company has already unveiled two new devices this year – Redmi 2 and Mi Note (with a Mi Note Pro version), so it's probably soon for a new announcement
Whatever the reason, the event is a big deal – San Francisco is the home of many startups and tech giants are a stone's throw away, with both Apple and Google campuses not far from there (Xiaomi's VP of International Hugo Barra is a former Googler). The location can't be a coincidence and sends clear message, especially to the former giants that Xiaomi leapfrogged to get into the Top 3.

Xiaomi solves the problem of the protruding camera of the iPhone 6 using a frying pan

Xiaomi is going after the iPhone 6 Plus with its Mi Note and Mi Note Pro phablets, that’s clear. The Chinese company obviously thinks its offerings are superior to Apple’s, and it’s now put out a new video meant to drive that point home.

In it, we can see Xiaomi President and co-founder Bin Lin musing about how his company has a patented new solution which ensures there are no protruding cameras on its phones’ backs.
Said solution is nothing more and nothing less than a frying pan. Lin is literally using one of those on the iPhone 6 Plus’ back, and after a few knocks what ‘magically’ results is the non-protruding camera on the Mi Note.

Xiaomi boasts that in its devices, the camera is “integrated harmoniously with the phone body”. The company pledges to “level” any obstacles that might prevent it from “developing the best products to the fullest”, using the frying pan method of course. This apparently perfects the “user experience of mobile phones”.
So if you’re ever annoyed by the fact that your iPhone’s camera is of the protruding type, you now know what to do.

Full specs : Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 leaked

The Xiaomi Redmi Note, released in March 2014, is due for a successor, and one is evidently in the works. A new listing on the site of Chinese agency TENAA reveals its appearance and insides.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 2
The new generation Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 is proving to be an incremental update, rather than an entirely new device. The new generation is built around a 5.5-inch display of 720p resolution. The chipset model isn't revealed, but the quad-core CPU rated at 1.2GHz suggests the Snapdragon 410. The new smartphone will feature 1GB of RAM and 8GB of storage, expandable by up to 32GB via microSD.
Imaging department is represented by a 13MP main camera on the back, and a 5MP selfie unit, much like the predecessor. Overall dimensions have been kept the same at 154 x 78.7 x 9.5 mm, while weight has been trimmed down from 199g to 188g.
The new smartphone will run Android 4.4.4 out of the box and will come in a rainbow of colors, including red, orange, yellow, green, blue and purple, as well as a more formal black and white version. Availability remains to be confirmed, but the expected price is CNY799 ($128).

HTC will launch online store in Taiwan next month to better fight against Xiaomi

HTC is set to start operating its own online store in its home market of Taiwan. This has been known ever since December, when HTC North Asia President Jack Tong made the plans official. The store will officially open at 10 pm local time on February 4.
The move is said to be all about better positioning HTC to compete head-on with Chinese competitors such as Xiaomi when it comes to the sales of cheap smartphones.
As you may know, Xiaomi employs an online-only business model, and HTC is apparently willing to test whether the online channel could help it achieve better sales in Taiwan. However, the company remains cautious about its new venture. According to the aforementioned exec, HTC expects just 10% of its revenue in Taiwan to come from the online store.
For starters, it will offer willing customers two phone models: the Desire 816G, and the Desire 526G(pictured above). These are rather affordable midrangers, so HTC isn’t looking to experiment with selling its flagship One (M8) in this way just yet. Perhaps if the store is successful, the company will replicate it across Asia.

First batch of Xiaomi Mi Note batch sold out in 3 minutes

The Mi Redmi Note and Xiaomi Mi Note Pro were announced two weeks ago. The Pro flavor is expected to go on sale in March, while the regular Mi Note unit was released today in China.

The first batch of Mi Note phablets was depleted in just three minutes. As usual Xiaomi didn't share the number of units sold today, so we can't confirm whether this is as impressive as it sounds or not. Xiaomi announced yesterday the number of people claimed interest online exceeds 220 million.
Xiaomi Mi Note will once again go on sale on February 3 in China, so stay tuned for the next batch. If you are interested in the Snapdragon 810-powered Mi Note Pro model, you'll have to wait a little while longer though.

Huawei sees as Samsung real competitor , not Xiaomi

Huawei may well be behind Xiaomi in local as well as international rankings, but that doesn’t mean it considers the latter as its competitor, or so claimed the company’s CEO Richard Yu, who said that Huawei instead sees Samsung as its real rival.
Yu also said that Xiaomi, which has apparently reached the number two position in China now, stands no chance in the high-end segment of the market, while adding that the startup’s Mi Note as well as Mi 4 devices offer no advantages over Huawei’s Ascend Mate 7 and Honor 6 Plus, respectively.
The news comes just a few days after Yu slammed Xiaomi’s recently unveiled Mi Note Pro for having poor battery life.

Xiaomi launched the Mi 4 in India for $325

Xiaomi has finally launched the Mi 4 smartphone in India. The phone is priced at Rs. 19,999 ($320) and will be available starting February 10 through Flipkart. The phone will only be available in white with 16GB memory and no LTE connectivity.

The Mi 4 has a 5.0-inch, 1920x1080 LCD, Snapdragon 801 processor, 3GB RAM, 16GB internal memory (non-expandable), 13 megapixel rear camera, 8 megapixel front camera, 3080mAh battery, and MIUI 6 on top of Android 4.4 KitKat.
In China, the phone is available in black/white and 16GB/64GB configurations and with LTE, so it's rather odd to see Xiaomi introduce the lowest tier model, that too in just white color in India. It's likely that Xiaomi is selling the lesser popular model in India to clear old stock.

Xiaomi Redmi 2 official with 2GB RAM, 16GB storage, might be the Redmi 2S

The Xiaomi Redmi 2 was one of the first phones to launch this year, a successor to the popular and highly affordable Redmi 1S. The upgrades weren’t huge, the new chipset was easily the most noticeable change. That left the phone with 1GB of RAM and 8GB of storage, which is considered low these days (not necessarily for a CNY 700 / $110 phone, but still).
Yesterday, TENAA certified an updated version of the Redmi 2 and Xiaomi's CEO confirmed on Weibo that it's the real deal – a new version of the phone with double the RAM and storage, 2GB and 16GB respectively.
That's good news and was well-received in the MIUI forums... except for people who already bought the 1GB/8GB model. There's no info how those cases will be handled. We'd say "return it" but the pricing isn’t clear (it seems that it will be slightly higher) and it's not clear when the new model will go on sale (so you may have to wait a while).
We'll be on the lookout for more info from Xiaomi because right now excitement is mixed with confusion.

xiaomi redmi 2 rounds TENAA

Xiaomi's large success last year was in large part due to the manufacturer's latest device lineup with successful handsets like the Xiaomi Redmi 1S, Redmi Note and the Redmi 2. The latter is an extremely affordable device, priced at around $100. Xiaomi has realized its appeal and news has just surfaced that an upgraded version is already in the works. The original model is powered by a 64-bit quad-core Snapdragon 410 SoC, has 8GB onboard memory, a 4.7-inch HD display, 1GB of RAM and even offers LTE connectivity.
The new improved version has popped-up on TENAA - the Chinese certification authority and it seems to be very similar to its predecessor, but with two very important changes. First of all the RAM has been bumped-up to 2GB, which is a lot more adequate on today's mobile scene. Storage is also doubled at 16GB, which is also a necessity given the growing requirements of a lot of Android apps.

Other than that the new Xiaomi Redmi 2 looks pretty much unchanged. It is equipped with the same set of cameras - an 8MP main shooter with LED flash and a 2PM front one. The device will probably ship with the same Android 4.4.4 KitKat OS as well, coupled with MIUI V6 on top.
If Xiaomi manages to keep the original tantalizing price tag the improved hardware might just rekindle the handset's popularity and prove to be a really smart move in terms of competing with rivals, like the Meizu M1 Mini, for example. With certification already passed the new Redmi 2 should hit consumer markets really soon and take its place among the premium Xiaomi Mi Note and Mi Note Pro models to complete the company's current lineup.

Give an APPLE away to get a Xiaomi your way , at work!

Xiaomi has a trade-in program for Apple iPhone users in the works. The word about the bold marketing stint arrived from an executive from the ambitious Chinese startup.

Reportedly, iPhone 5s owners will be able to trade their device for the freshly announced Xiaomi Mi Note. Apple iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus users on the other hand, will be able to set themselves up with the drool-worthy Xiaomi Mi Note Pro.
According to the report, users will be able to trade their iPhone in regardless of its condition. However, we do suspect that a functioning device is required for the swap to take place.
Official details about the program are yet to be revealed. We reckon that, at least initially, the trade-in program will only be available in China.

Xiaomi has announced that its Mi 3 smartphone, which was launched in India back in July 2014, and last went on sale in the month of October, will again go on sale in the country on January 26. According to a post on the company’s official Facebook page, the one-day only sale will begin at 5PM.

The Mi 3 features a 2.3GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 chipset with quad-core 2.3GHz CPU and Adreno 330 GPU and a five-inch, 1920x1080 resolution IPS display. Huawei CEO not happy with Xiaomi 's flagship Mi note pro

Huawei CEO Richard Yu recently shared his thoughts on Xiaomi’s latest flagship handset – the Mi Note Pro. It appears that he was less than pleased with the phablet’s battery life after being able to experience it firsthand.
The Xiaomi Mi Note Pro is equipped with a 6-inch QHD display and has a 3,000mAh battery. This is precisely where Richard’s grudge with the device lies. According to a recent post he made on Weibo, the CEO considers that the resolution is overkill for a screen of this size and the human eye has difficulties distinguishing between Full HD and QHD at this scale. He continue to criticize Xiaomi’s hardware of choice by stating that the power-hungry, high-resolution display only diminishes battery life.
He further backs up these observations by stating that he had the chance to use both the Meizu MX4 Pro and the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 and was disappointed with the battery life of both devices. While this might theoretically be true and a QHD resolution may still be more of a curse than a blessing on smartphones, the important thing to take away is a hint at possible Huawei future plans.
The sibling rivalry between the two Chinese companies isn’t surprising anyone, but Richard Yu’s disappointment with QHD resolution mobile displays might just hint that Huawei still intend to stick with Full HD in future devices. Then again, it might just be haggling. What is your take on the matter and would you people like to see QHD resolution form Xiaomi in the future?
