Galaxy Note Edge getting Lollipop 5.0.1 OTA in Australia

Samsung has been working hard pushing Lollipop updates lately with more and more handsets are now getting the latest available Android.
The Galaxy Note 4 phablet finally saw a major European Lollipop rollout last week and today new information has surfaced that the curved Galaxy Note Edge is joining in on the fun. The handset is already receiving update notifications in Australia, which smells like a soak test. If everything goes smooth we should be seeing a major rollout in a few weeks or maybe even sooner.

Below are the details of the new update package:
  • Model SM-N915G
  • Model name GALAXY Note Edge
  • Country Australia
  • Version Android 5.0.1
  • Changelist 4144270
  • Build date Fri, 13 Feb 2015 23:58:14 +0000
  • Product code XSA
  • PDA N915GXXU1BOB7
  • CSC N915GXSA1BOB7
  • MODEM N915GXXU1BOB7
The Galaxy Note Edge is almost identical to the Galaxy Note 4 in terms of internals so it was only natural that the curvy smartphone follow closely with Android Lollipop support. The extra screen does pose a lot of software challenges so patience may be necessary to fine tune the new OS to the odd new host.
So if you are on a Samsung Galaxy Note Edge in Australia be sure to check for that update package regularly as the Lollipop goodness should be waiting for you. And be sure to come back with any impressions and interesting finds.

Galaxy Note Edge with Swarovski crystals makes your eyes bleed

There is a Samsung Galaxy Note Edge exclusive limited edition that you probably don't want to be seen with. The special Note Edge model has 1800 shiny Swarovski crystals all over the back.
The highlight of this limited Galaxy Note Edge flavor is the recreated with crystals drawing Playing Hands by Albrecht Dürer.
Crystalize Your Design has become quite popular among certain group of famous people putting Swarovski crystals on headphones, smartphones, iMacs, laptops, tablets and even champagne bottles.

There is no pricing announced for the exclusive Galaxy Note Edge edition just yet, but if for some reason you are interested to find out more, just hit the source link below.

630,000 Galaxy Note Edge units have been sold since launch

Last September, Samsung unveiled two phablet flagships: the Galaxy Note 4 and the Galaxy Note Edge. Since the only major difference between the two was the screen - the latter, as you’d probably know, features a distinctive curved display on one of its edges - it was a bit difficult to predict how well the Note Edge would sell.
But now, it is being reported that Samsung has sold around 630,000 Galaxy Note Edge smartphones since the device’s launch. Agreed, that’s even no where near the 4.5 million Galaxy Note 4 units sold in the very first month of its availability, but the number isn’t as bad as some would have suggested, especially considering the fact that the device comes with an even higher price tag.
In fact, that’s good news for Samsung, which is expected to unveil its next flagship, the Galaxy S6, as well as its curved screen cousin, the Galaxy S Edge, at Mobile World Congress next month. In case you aren’t aware, the company has already sent out invites for its Galaxy Unpacked 2015 event, and has also confirmed that there will be no US-based Unpacked event this year.

Beta Lollipop ROM for Galaxy Note Edge now available

The Lollipop update for the Galaxy Note 4 may be getting slowed down by Gear VR support, but theGalaxy Note Edge has yet to receive Android 5.0 too (the Gear VR is not compatible with the Edge). An XDA-Developers member has a beta version of an official Android 5.0.1 build and has shared it with the community.
It's a build number XXU1BOA2 and is very recent – from January 27 – but it has issues to be ironed out. One user reports a deep sleep bug, so it's recommended that you set the minimum CPU frequency to 300MHz to mitigate the issue.

You'll also need to backup your device, one user had success with flashing the ROM without a full wipe, but there are no guarantees. The ROM can be flashed with Odin 3.09 and you can also throw in CWM and root (with SuperSU).
The Android Lollipop ROM is reportedly smoother than the KitKat software that currently powers the Samsung Galaxy Note Edge. You can find more details about the ROM and how it behaves - not to mention the download links - by following the source link. This ROM isn’t officially released for a reason, so flash it at your own risk.

Samsung Galaxy Note Edge will hit Malaysian shores in February

The Samsung Galaxy Note Edge is slowly spreading over more and more markets. It is now set for official launch in Malaysia, where it will be available starting February. To publicize its unconventional phablet offering, the Korean company has released a promotional video with a couple of sky-diving thrill seekers.

The Samsung Galaxy Note Edge is the pioneer in a current trend of display innovation. Based on the international version of the Galaxy Note 4, it packs the same Snapdragon 805 chipset with quad-core 2.7GHz processor, 3GB of RAM and a choice of 32/64GB storage options. What sets it apart is the 160-pixel display strip that curves around the smartphone's right side, offering additional functionality.
The reel barely brushes on the smartphone's features though, but is nonetheless fun to watch. Two exorbitantly rich chaps use their smartphones to set a location where they meet up for a game of tic-tac-toe in mid air. The intense exchange of crosses and circles is disturbed by a call from one's Mom. Had he chosen to ignore her, the game could have remained uninterrupted, showcasing the edge screen's notification capabilities.

The Galaxy Note Edge commands a RM500 premium over its ordinary sibling for a RM2,999 asking price ($826). Reportedly, quantities will be limited.

Galaxy Note Edge sale starts in Canada on Feb 18

Samsung has announced the availability of the Galaxy Note Edge in Canada. The device, which was spotted up for pre-order on Best Buy Canada website a couple of days ago, is priced at CA$400 on-contract, or CA$900 outright, and will go on sale in the country on February 18. Both Rogers and Bell will sell the device, which will be available in Charcoal Black.
"The Galaxy Note Edge is one of our most innovative and unique smartphone designs to date, which once again demonstrates that we are listening and responding to our consumers," said Paul Brannen, Executive Vice President, Mobile Solutions, Samsung Canada.
The key selling point of the Galaxy Note Edge is the curved display present on its right edge. "The Edge Screen helps busy Canadians get more done on-the-go with incoming calls, texts, emails and alerts appearing neatly contained in the Edge panel without interrupting your main screen experience, Brannen said.
The smartphone is powered by a Snapdragon 805 chipset with 2.7GHz Krait 450 quad-core processor and Adreno 420 GPU. It sports a 5.6-inch 1600 x 2560 Super AMOLED display, 16 MP rear camera, and 3.7 MP front snapper. The device comes with 3GB of RAM, 32/64GB of internal storage (which can be expanded up to 128GB via MicroSD card), and runs Android 4.4.4 KitKat.

Edged variant of Galaxy S6 could be dubbed Galaxy S Edge

Samsung's next expected flagship device - the alleged Galaxy S6 has been generating a lot of buzz in the rumor mill. But besides the usual talk of more RAM, a better camera and whether it will be water resistant or not there is also another exciting rumor floating around, namely that the device might be available is a variant with a curved screen.

This is an exciting thought and it seems to be inching closer and closer to becoming a reality. One of our readers tipped us off that the source code of a certain product page on Vodafone.nl holds a comment carelessly left behind by a developer, that hints of an upcoming preorder for something dubbed the "Galaxy S Edge".
If might just indicate that Samsung has decided to go with the same naming scheme as its first edged device - the Galaxy Note Edge and drop the number from the title. Even if we trust Vodafone's anonymous developer on the preorder set to happen this still tells is little about the device itself and there is a lot that needs clarification.
To mention some of the chaos and confusion surrounding the Galaxy S Edge, it is still unclear whether its screen will be curved on just one side, like the Note Edge or it will extend downward on both sides. Rumors, however go beyond and state that the device not only exists, but a testing unit has made it to India for R&D purposes.
In any case Samsung is still to confirm anything regarding the mythical Galaxy S Edge. Hopefully we will know more pretty soon, but seeing how MWC 2015 is just around the corner we might have a month or so of waiting if Samsung decides to hold up until the big venue.

Galaxy note Edge up for pre-orders for canadians

The Samsung Galaxy Note Edge, which launched in the US back in November, will be available in Canada soon. While there’s no word on the price and availability date, the device is up for pre-order on Best Buy, with the listing suggesting that both Roger and Bell will be offering it.
As most of you would probably know, the key selling point of the Galaxy Note Edge is the curved display present on its right edge, effectively doubling as a secondary screen that can be used for a variety of purposes such as displaying notifications and housing media-player controls.
