WhatsApp web client now also compatible with Firefox and Opera
When WhatsApp launched a desktop version of its messaging service last month, it worked only with Google Chrome. But that’s not the case anymore, as the company has announced that the client is now also compatible with Firefox and Opera.
The sign up process remains the same, which means Firefox and Opera users will also have to scan a QR code from within WhatsApp on their handset, something which can be done through a new Menu option, labeled WhatsApp Web.
A point worth mentioning is that the aforementioned option is going to be available to you if you use the app on Android, BlackBerry, Windows Phone, or Nokia’s old S60 OS, which means that iOS users are currently out of luck.
Now you could soon make calls through WhatsApp as they are rolling out the calling feature
WhatsApp’s much requested calling feature has been rumored for a while now but the company has finally flipped the switch on it. One reddit user was able to get the feature activated on his number and it is now rolling out to others as well.
For now it seems WhatsApp is going slow with the rollout, with the only people who have the feature being those who were called by someone who already has the feature. So although it helps to have the latest version of the app installed on your device (for Android users, it’s usually the APK available through the website), you’ll still have to wait for it to roll out to you or someone with the feature to call you.
As for the interface, the calling feature adds individual calls, chats, and contacts tabs at the top. First shows your recent calls through the apps, second shows your chats and the third is for your contacts. The call interface is fairly simple, showing the name and WhatsApp image of the person you are calling.
WhatsApp hasn’t yet announced the feature officially on their blog, so it could still be in testing phase, but at least we now know it exists for sure and is now very close.
Whatsapp on web
WhatsApp for Web is official from now on. Users can install Chrome browser on their PC (not available in APPLE devices due to limitatons omplatform compatibility) and runWhatsApp application from their web browser. But you still need Whatsapp installed and connected to a network on your phone.
Just open the Google Chrome browser ( only works from chrome browser) and type the in the url https://web.whatsapp.com. For security reasons though, there will be a QR code on the page. You will need to scan the same using your mobile phone.
You need to scan the code only and the web Whatsapp is connected with your phone.You also need to use the latest Whatsapp version installed on your phone. So basically you still need Whatsapp on your phone and running, web browser input / output method – not a standalone way of using WhatsApp.
