Oppo 3000 released in China, it's a 4G-capable midranger

Oppo has unveiled a new smartphone in China today. It's called Oppo 3000 and it's already up for grabs in the mainland, in an interesting twist.
Unlike other Oppo handsets, this one can't claim the title of "world's thinnest smartphone", nor does it come with an innovative swiveling camera. The Oppo 3000 is just a midrange device, aiming to deliver a polished experience to those who aren't looking for top of the line specs.

Oppo 3000
Speaking of those, the Oppo 3000 comes with a 4.7-inch 720p touchscreen, a 5 MP wide-angle front camera, and an 8 MP Sony IMX179 rear camera sensor, which boasts f/2.0 aperture and has a five-element lens. All of these things should add up to decent image quality produced by this phone.
Running the show here is Qualcomm's 64-bit Snapdragon 410 SoC, with a 1.2 GHz quad-core CPU in tow and Adreno 306 GPU. The Oppo 3000 has 1GB of RAM, 8GB of built-in storage, a microSD card slot, dual-SIM functionality (dual-standby), 4G LTE support, NFC, and a 2,000 mAh battery.
It runs Android 4.4 KitKat underneath Oppo's own Color OS 2.01. The device is being sold in China for CNY 1,599, which is about $256 or €226. That's quite a bit more than what's being asked for similarly specced handsets such as the new Xiaomi Redmi 2, so it's unclear how successful the Oppo 3000 will turn out to be, sales-wise. Another unknown is whether it will ever be offered for purchase elsewhere

Oppo R5 is now available for pre-order in the UK

Oppo's brief world record holder for thinnest smartphone has shown up on Amazon's UK site and is now available for pre-order. The precious units are set to start shipping as early as February 20.
The Oppo R5 is a stylish midrange offering, packing a 5.2-inch FullHD display in a slender 4.85mm body. That wasn't thin enough, the competition deemed, and the R5 is now in third place behind theIvvi K1 Mini and the Vivo X5Max. That shouldn't make it any less desireable, though, as the two-tone aluminum body is a true stunner.
The rest of the Oppo R5 specs are not too shabby either. A Snapdragon 615 chipset is on board, featuring an octa-core processor, Adreno 405 GPU and 2GB of RAM. Where the R5 falls short is battery capacity, which at 2000mAh proves barely adequate for the screen size, but that's the trade-off for the super-thin profile.
The SIM-free Oppo R5 is listed at £296.99 but you can also claim a free Oppo powerbank with it to address the battery capacity issue.

Gilded Oppo R5 to hit international markets February 12

The razor thin, high-end R5 handset is the crown jewel in Oppo's smartphone family. Seeing how the device is a definite eye catcher it is only logical that the manufacturer is aiming for an international release. This is set to happen on February 14, which will give R5 an opportunity to test its strength in the Valentines' day shopping spree and perhaps earn its self-proclaimed title - "the iPhone 6 killer".

New information has surfaced that Oppo is planning to spice things up a little bit for the international premiere by offering a special gilded version of the phone. Changes are limited to a new gold finish on the 3.85mm rim of the device. With this new look Oppo is hoping to gear holiday shoppers towards the elegant R5 and hopefully away from Apple's offers.

Besides the little touch of gold the rest of the phone is the same. It still features the Snapdragon 615 chipset (four 1.5GHz Cortex-A53 cores and another four at 1GHz) with a new generation Adreno 405 graphics accelerator.
The Oppo R5 packs a 5.2" Super AMOLED screen of 1080p resolution and a 13MP rear camera with fast focus, Ultra HD 50MP option, refocus mode, and improved low-light performance with slow-shutter. You get a 5MP selfie cam as well and LTE is enabled too. Battery life could be a little better, but frankly in that form factor even fitting a battery is an accomplishment by itself.

International pricing for the gilded version is yet to be announced, but the standard model currently retails for about €399 and judging from pricing in China, the new paint job should cost around €30 more.

Oppo mobile photography contest; winners get the N3 smartphone

Chinese smartphone manufacturer Oppo has launched a new global mobile photography contest that gives participants a chance to share their stories with photographs. Dubbed It’s Your Turn, the three-week contest centers on three themes: “Selfie Showdown”, “Our World”, and “Inspiring Moments”, and will see winners getting the company’s N3 smartphone.
To take part in the contest, you can either directly visit the contest’s official page or share your photos on social media websites like Facebook. “The Facebook accounts of OPPO’s global and country sites will share photos uploaded by participants on a regular basis,” the company said.
The N3 is the world’s first smartphone with a 16-megapixel motorized swivel camera that doubles as a front and rear shooter. The camera is capable of tracking objects as they move, can rotate up to 206 degrees, and can shoot panoramas in up to 64-megapixels

Oppo N3 selfie showdown

It seems that selfie contests are becoming as popular as the selfie itself – first Xiaomi, now Oppo too. Oppo’s Selfie Showdown asks you to post your favorite, creative or unusual selfie.

The winners will grab a brand new Oppo N3. The company’s photography flagship has a mechanized rotating camera so selfies get the first-class treatment and are taken with the 13MP camera and dual-LED flash.
Anyway, the contest will run for three weeks, so there will be three sets of winners. Oppo also hints at three themes, though for now you just need to snap a selfie, give it a title and submit it for Round One.
