Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge concept video looks awesome

The upcoming Samsung Galaxy S6 has been the inspiration behind a number of renders over the past weeks. Today we're being treated to another take on the matter and this time we get both the Galaxy S6 and its Edge variety side by side.

Samsung Galaxy S6 renders

Created by designers Ivo Maric and Jermaine Smit, the concept video sums up all the available information, that's become public so far. The 6.9mm thin profile with a surrounding metal frame and glass back both add up to a hot looking body. The unsightly bump for the camera lens was unfortunately unavoidable with such thin waistline. The new flash/sensor arrangement has been the least disputed feature of the upcoming top-tier smartphone, confirmed by numerous leaks.
Blending the Samsung Galaxy S6 vision with the existing Galaxy Note Edge results in the Galaxy S6 Edge concept. The special brother to the upcoming flagship has been less keen to show up in leaks, but the artists have closely followed Samsung's design language, and are unlikely to be off by much. A possible solution for a wireless charging station has also entertained the designers' imagination.

Anyhow, with MWC less than 10 days ahead the wait is almost over. We'll finally get to see the highly anticipated flagship duo at Samsung's Unpacked event on March 1.

Most hotly anticipated phone at MWC

The Samsung Galaxy S6 is a cornerstone for the company, set to finally bring the feel of the company’s flagships up to top standards. Widely criticized for its choice of materials so far, the Korean giant is rebuilding the upcoming smartphone from the ground up, addressing the issue.
The hype, which has been building around the Galaxy S6, showed its results and it emerged victorious in our survey. Samsung’s high-end device is expected to finally bring something new to the table, while competitors will stick to evolutionary changes for this generation.
                    Samsuing Galaxy S6         (31.1%)

                           Htc One M9             (26.9%)

                Samsung Galaxy S6  Edge     (15.3%)

                   Sony xperia Z4                 (27.6%)

The battle for second place was fierce, but in the end the Sony Xperia Z4 inched ahead of the HTC One (M9), with less than a hundred votes splitting the two. Still, users anticipating the next-gen Xperia high-ender may end up disappointed, as its launch appears increasingly less likely to take place at MWC.
Galaxy S6 Edge, the odd little brother to the Samsung flagship came in fourth, proving that special doesn’t necessarily mean more interesting. A respectable 14% of the votes went in its favor nonetheless.

Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge details 'confirmed' again

For a few weeks we've been seeing an incredibly high number of leaks and rumors talking about the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S6. So far it's pretty likely that we'll get an S6 Edge version too, and this has been rumored to have a three-sided screen, not two-sided like the Galaxy Note Edge (which is pictured below).
Today a new report comes to confirm this detail, along with other things that have been leaked recently. For example, both the S6 and the S6 Edge are said to sport "all-metal bodies". So the much rumored glass backs may be out.

The phones will come with 5.1-inch displays, keeping the size of their predecessor. They will be powered by "Samsung's most advanced processor chips", or so say "people with direct knowledge of the matter". This isn't surprising, given how many times we've heard that Samsung won't use Qualcomm chips for the S6, instead opting for its own Exynos 7 octa solution.
According to some analysts, the Galaxy Note Edge was received by the market better than they've anticipated, which means the S6 Edge might be a rather successful endeavor too. And its screen, which covers the front but also the left and right sides of the device, will surely make it stand out in public. Samsung plans to eventually produce a fully foldable smartphone, but until that's possible these curved displays will have to do.
Both the Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy S6 Edge will be unveiled by Samsung on March 1 at a special event in Barcelona.

Samsung Galaxy S6 and S Edge to have a 20MP OIS camera

A lot has been written about the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S Edge flagships, with plenty of emphasis on the camera. The prevalent rumor is that it will be a 20MP shooter, but now more info has surfaced, coming from an insider who allegedly has a Galaxy S6 prototype in hand.
The rear camera will pack a 20MP sensor manufactured by Samsung with optical image stabilization. The selfie camera will be a 5MP shooter, also with a Samsung-made sensor (the sensor from the Galaxy A series in particular).

It's not clear if this Samsung sensor will make it to both S6 devices. Depending on production yield it could be limited to just the Galaxy S Edge or, worst case scenario, dropped altogether.
In terms of software, Samsung is said to use the new Android 5.0 camera APIs to provide a Pro mode. This mode will shoot RAW photos and offer manual controls including focus and shutter speed controls.

Galaxy S6 and S Edge official support pages makes its appearance

It is no secret that everybody seems to be waiting for Samsung's next big flagship device. The highly-anticipated Galaxy S6 and its alleged double-curved variant have been gathering so much interest that our news section has practically been overflowing with leaks and little bits and pieces of information.

But while the amount of leaks is staggering  those coming from Samsung itself are rather limited. We today we've got one of those rare occurrences where the Koreans didn't successfully keep their next flagship under wraps.

The new puzzle piece in the Galaxy S6 mystery holds little additional information, but is a serious teaser none the less. It appears that while the Korean tech giant is keeping silent about its next flagship the process of updating webpages for the release has already begun. Two rather empty such pages have surfaced on the manufacturer's official Swedish and Finnish websites that seem to bear the model numbers of the future flagship and its edged variant.
Based on earlier leaks the Galaxy S6, should bear the model SM-G920X, while the Galaxy S Edge or Galaxy S6 Edge, whichever turns out to be the final name, will most likely be formally called SM-G925X. These are supposedly the European variants of the handsets.

The two devices will be officially unveiled on March 1 at Samsung's "Unpacked" event. From what we have heard so far we expect to see them equipped with a QHD Super AMOLED display, 3GB of RAM and a 16-megapixel main camera. If Samsung did in fact shy away from using the Snapdragon 810 SoC, like news indicates the Galaxy S and its edged variant will most likely boast the in-house Exynos 7420.

Samsung gets GALAXY S6 and S6 edge names trademarked in South Korea

While we’ve had an endless marathon of reports surrounding Samsung’s upcoming flagship, the Galaxy S6, as well as its all but confirmed curved variant, the Galaxy S Edge, detailing information such as specs, features, price, as well as the colour options. We even had one for the name courtesy of Vodafone, but now we learn it might not have been entirely accurate.
The South Korean company has got the names ‘GALAXY S6′ and ‘S6 edge’ trademarked in South Korea (see image above) a few days ago, something which was first noticed by our friends at GalaxyClub.
What’s worth noting here is that the name ‘S6 edge’ doesn’t carry the Galaxy branding, although this could easily be a mistake by someone at KIPRIS (Korea Intellectual Property Rights Information Service), especially given that the word ‘edge’ also begins with ‘e’ in lower case, which also makes little sense. It also may not mean much in terms of actual naming – Samsung might just be protecting itself from competitors releasing an S6 Edge device, while still choosing to use the simpler S Edge for the actual product.
That said, Samsung has already sent out invites for its Galaxy Unpacked 2015 media event, scheduled for March 1, so all these doubts will be cleared up soon.

Rumor: Galaxy S Edge screen to be less curvy than Note Edge

The rumor mill is abuzz with Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S Edge tips and leaks. Reportedly the Galaxy S6 and S Edge bodies will be uniformly colored, with the same texture on the front. Apparently even the camera module will get a paint job, it's normally black regardless of the phone's color.

Both new Galaxy S flagships will reportedly have metal unibodies and schematics show the Galaxy S6 will be pretty thin, 6.9mm. The camera will protrude though.
As for the Galaxy S Edge, it will have Edge display on both sides. They will be 30% to 50% less curved than on the Galaxy Note, because it's a smaller handset and it has to accommodate Power and Volume buttons on the sides.

Alleged European pricing for both Galaxy S6 and S Edge revealed

Samsung has already announced that it is holding its Galaxy Unpacked 2015 event on March 1, and it’s all but confirmed that the South Korean company will use it to announce both the Galaxy S6 flagship as well as its curved screen cousin, the Galaxy S Edge.
While the countdown for their official unveiling has begun, alleged European pricing details for the devices have been published by AndroidPit. According to the website, the Galaxy S6 will come in three variants depending upon internal storage: 32GB, 64GB, and 128GB, and will be priced at €749, €849, and €949, respectively.
Similarly, the Galaxy S Edge will also come in 32, 64, and 128GB variants, and will be priced at €849, €949, and €1049, respectively. Needless to say, these prices aren’t officially confirmed, so take them with a pinch of salt.

Samsung Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S Edge to debut on March 1

It's official - Samsung is holding its Galaxy Unpacked 2015 event on March 1. The company's press event is going to focus primarily on its upcoming flagship smartphone, the Galaxy S6. In the teaser image below, however, you can see the company will also introduce a product with a distinctive curve in its design. Could we be looking at a Galaxy S Edge?

The latest pieces of evidence point that the Galaxy S6 will feature a 5" QHD Super AMOLED display and draw power from the Exynos 7420 chipset with octa-core CPU and 3GB of RAM. At the back, the flagship will feature a heart rate monitor and a 20MP snapper. You can check out the design of the phone's back in a set of case photos from Spigen.
Additionally, the phone will likely pack a metal frame, just as the teaser image hints. Akin to the Galaxy Alpha, this will benefit the phone's profile making it measure 143.5 x 70.7 x 7.2mm as per leaked schematics of the device.
The curved variant of the Galaxy S6 might be called simply Galaxy S Edge. It remains unclear at this point if two of the screen's sides will be curved or just one. A patent showcases that Samsung has figured the technology out on making double edge happen.

Samsung Galaxy S6 or Galaxy S Edge ? The brand's patent shows off new dual-edged screen design..

With MWC 2015 closing in fast all eyes are on manufacturers to usher forth their new device lineups. Samsung's next flagship S device - the Galaxy S6 has long been in the rumor mill and is still expected to make its first appearance at the Barcelona venue this year.
While we have a somewhat clear idea of the , which should be powered by an Exynos 7420 SoC with 3GB OF RAM, there are bigger, still unanswered questions, mostly concerning its physical appearance and new features. New additions to the next S-line leader supposedly include an aluminum body, much like the ones in Samsung's recent A series as well as a new line of advanced back panel accessories, like e-ink displays and camera optics.

But perhaps, most exciting of all is the possibility that a variant of the new Galaxy S6 will come equipped with a curved display, just like the Galaxy Note Edge and even go a step beyond with a double-edged panel. The interesting device will most probably be named Galaxy S Edge and might have more than a few tricks up its sleeve, that is if a recent patent leak is to be believed.
The document in question showcases an interesting new take on the edged concept and might just hint at what we can expect from the Galaxy S Edge. The screen in the sketch is indeed curved on both sides, but it extends all the way to the back of the device. Unlike the screen on the Galaxy Note Edge, which is only usable when the device is facing upwards this new idea might just allow users to interact with the additional GUI space even when the phone is facing down.

This opens an array of new possibilities. The cleverly-positioned extra space will most likely be used for notifications and quick toggles and media controls, but other interesting use-cases are sure to emerge.
It is also worth noting that the leaked patent showcases another new feature, described simply as "Pop-up. From the looks of it there is a panel on top of the device that the name suggest will perhaps pop-out of the device. Nothing is really known about the feature yet and what functionality it will bring, but it is also worth mentioning that not every patented innovation makes its way on to the production line.
The sketch might just give us a general idea of what the highly-anticipated Galaxy S6 might look like. On the other hand it could be absolutely unrelated and pertaining to entirely future-planned features and designs. For now all we can do is wait and hope the Korean tech giant will unveil the new technology at MWC next month.

Samsung's Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S Edge to support the Gear VR

Samsung has been focused on promoting is Gear VR headset, bringing it to Sundance Film Festivaland climbing on-board commercial flights. Aside from limited content, the widespread use of the Gear VR is hampered by the simple fact that it can only function with a Galaxy Note 4 smartphone.
Well, what better way to address the latter issue, than to make the upcoming Galaxy S6 and rumored Galaxy S Edge compatible as well? Unnamed sources claim that's exactly the case, but here's where the information ends and speculation begins.
At present the Gear VR works with the Galaxy Note 4 only, which packs a large 5.7-inch display. So far the rumors on the Galaxy S6 have settled around a 5.2-in screen, making it too small to be implemented as is.
There are at least two ways around this issue, the source suggests, one being a brand new headset to support multiple screen sizes. Such a solution can accommodate the future flagship while maintaining compatibility with the Galaxy Note 4.
Another workaround would be to make the Galaxy S6 larger, but it seems illogical to design a mainstream device around a niche one.
A more cumbersome third option, keeping the current Gear VR and freeing the Galaxy S6 from such compatibility considerations, would be to employ some sort of lens adapter within the existing headset.
Bear in mind that all of the above is speculation, based on rumors, so it may be far detached from reality. Until we see a working Galaxy S6 inside a VR headset, all is subject to change.

Edged variant of Galaxy S6 could be dubbed Galaxy S Edge

Samsung's next expected flagship device - the alleged Galaxy S6 has been generating a lot of buzz in the rumor mill. But besides the usual talk of more RAM, a better camera and whether it will be water resistant or not there is also another exciting rumor floating around, namely that the device might be available is a variant with a curved screen.

This is an exciting thought and it seems to be inching closer and closer to becoming a reality. One of our readers tipped us off that the source code of a certain product page on Vodafone.nl holds a comment carelessly left behind by a developer, that hints of an upcoming preorder for something dubbed the "Galaxy S Edge".
If might just indicate that Samsung has decided to go with the same naming scheme as its first edged device - the Galaxy Note Edge and drop the number from the title. Even if we trust Vodafone's anonymous developer on the preorder set to happen this still tells is little about the device itself and there is a lot that needs clarification.
To mention some of the chaos and confusion surrounding the Galaxy S Edge, it is still unclear whether its screen will be curved on just one side, like the Note Edge or it will extend downward on both sides. Rumors, however go beyond and state that the device not only exists, but a testing unit has made it to India for R&D purposes.
In any case Samsung is still to confirm anything regarding the mythical Galaxy S Edge. Hopefully we will know more pretty soon, but seeing how MWC 2015 is just around the corner we might have a month or so of waiting if Samsung decides to hold up until the big venue.

Galaxy note Edge up for pre-orders for canadians

The Samsung Galaxy Note Edge, which launched in the US back in November, will be available in Canada soon. While there’s no word on the price and availability date, the device is up for pre-order on Best Buy, with the listing suggesting that both Roger and Bell will be offering it.
As most of you would probably know, the key selling point of the Galaxy Note Edge is the curved display present on its right edge, effectively doubling as a secondary screen that can be used for a variety of purposes such as displaying notifications and housing media-player controls.
The smartphone is powered by a Snapdragon 805 chipset with 2.7GHz Krait 450 quad-core processor and Adreno 420 GPU. It sports a 5.6-inch 1600 x 2560 Super AMOLED display, 16 MP rear camera, and 3.7 MP front snapper. The device comes with 3GB of RAM, 32/64GB of internal storage (which can be expanded up to 128GB via MicroSD card), and runs Android 4.4.4 KitKat.
